Help me to help Global Seed Savers Philippines!
I recently joined the board of Global Seeds Savers Philippines, an organization that is doing hopeful, important work for organic farmers in the Philippines. It's been a privilege to participate in some ways in Global Seed Savers' growth from its beginnings on an organic farm years ago, into two partner organizations: one in the U.S., and one here.
One of our core beliefs is that keeping seeds and seed production in the hands of smallholder farmers is a key aspect of food security and climate change adaptation. Thus far, Global Seed Savers has helped to organize the Benguet Association of Seed Savers, supported the opening of a community-owned Seed Library in Tublay, and organized several Seed School trainings with smallholder farmers and organic practitioners. We're now getting ready to hold more Seed Schools and setup Seed Libraries with new partners in different regions and islands.
Now this is going to sound a bit simplistic -- the issues farmers face in the Philippines are complex, painful, and sometimes life-threatening, but I've seen how saving seeds makes people happy, and this makes me feel hopeful. Please help me to spread the happiness and help Global Seed Savers Philippines grow! If you click on the PayPal option your donation comes directly to our Philippine organization!
